Jackson, MS – Drivers in northeast Mississippi are urged to exercise caution as a Freezing Fog Advisory is in effect until 9 a.m. CST Tuesday.

The National Weather Service reported visibility reduced to a quarter mile or less due to freezing fog across areas including Starkville, Columbus, Macon, and surrounding cities. Freezing fog can create slick spots, particularly on bridges and overpasses, increasing the risk of hazardous driving conditions.

According to the advisory, affected counties include Clay, Lowndes, Choctaw, Oktibbeha, Winston, and Noxubee. Frost accumulation is possible, further complicating morning commutes.

Motorists are advised to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and maintain safe distances between vehicles. Special attention should be given to bridge decks, which are prone to freezing.

Freezing fog, a rare phenomenon in this region, typically occurs when temperatures drop below freezing, and moisture condenses close to the ground. Residents are reminded to remain cautious until the advisory expires at 9 a.m.
