Jackson, MS — Several tornadoes struck Mississippi on April 6, 2025, causing significant damage across several counties. Preliminary damage surveys from the National Weather Service (NWS) revealed that at least seven tornado tracks were confirmed. The most severe, an EF-2 tornado, caused significant damage with winds reaching 127 mph and a path length of 15.22 miles near the Summerland-Stringer area.
Additional tornadoes reported include EF-1 ratings with winds reaching up to 95 mph, such as the Tanglewood/West Newton tornado, which struck between 2:26 a.m. and 2:38 a.m. The Cleveland tornado, also an EF-2, lasted just two minutes and had a maximum width of 300 yards.
Other tornadoes included the West Raleigh EF-2 tornado, which touched down between 3:57 a.m. and 4:07 a.m., and the Soso Service tornado, an EF-0 with winds of 85 mph. Thankfully, all storms resulted in no fatalities or injuries. As of Monday, April 7, further surveys are underway.
The region remains on alert as experts continue their investigations and residents brace for additional storms.
