Jackson, MS – Northern Mississippi faces a renewed threat of severe thunderstorms Thursday, including large hail, damaging winds, and the potential for tornadoes.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a slight risk is in place from 4 p.m. to midnight Thursday, April 10. The primary hazards include wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail ranging from quarter to golf ball size. A few tornadoes cannot be ruled out, especially near the Mississippi Delta and north of Interstate 20.

Communities such as Greenwood, Eupora, Columbus, and areas along Interstate 55 are most at risk. However, strong storms could push farther south toward Jackson and Philadelphia by Thursday evening.

A marginal risk zone includes cities like Meridian, Vicksburg, and Yazoo City, where isolated severe storms may still occur. Wind and hail are the key concerns in those areas.

Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items, shelter vehicles, and have multiple ways to receive warnings. If a tornado warning is issued, take cover in an interior room away from windows.
