JACKSON, Miss. – The air over central Mississippi feels heavy and still this morning, thick with moisture after days of mild autumn warmth. But by late weekend, that comfortable stretch will snap sharply colder as a November front pushes through the Deep South, ushering in the region’s first brush with winterlike air.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, isolated showers could develop early Saturday night as a weak front approaches from the west. Behind it, strong northwesterly winds will sweep away the humidity and drop temperatures nearly 30 degrees by late Sunday. Afternoon highs that have hovered near 80°F will crash into the upper 40s Monday, with morning lows near freezing across much of central Mississippi.

Forecasters say wind chills Monday morning could feel closer to the mid-20s—especially across open fields and rural areas north of I-20. Residents should prepare now by protecting sensitive plants, outdoor pets, and irrigation systems. This will likely mark the area’s first widespread frost of the season.

While most of Mississippi stays dry through the weekend, a few light showers could clip areas near Vicksburg and Natchez late Saturday before skies clear rapidly Sunday. The colder pattern settles in for Veterans Day with bright sunshine but crisp air—perfect for parades and outdoor ceremonies, though coats will be essential.

Looking ahead, temperatures moderate slightly midweek, but forecasters hint that another cold push could arrive before Thanksgiving. For now, Mississippi’s brief November “false summer” is ending, and the season’s first true chill is knocking.
