Jackson, Miss. – Thick fog is expected to blanket parts of Mississippi and northeastern Louisiana early Thursday, reducing visibility and creating dangerous driving conditions during the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, areas of dense fog with visibility of one-quarter mile or less are likely between 3 a.m. and 9 a.m. Thursday across western and central Mississippi, including cities such as Vicksburg, Yazoo City, and Jackson. Lighter but still significant patchy fog may develop in surrounding counties.
The early-morning hazard will affect major highways, including stretches of I-20 and U.S. 49, where drivers could face sudden drops in visibility. Transportation officials urge motorists to use low beams, slow down, and allow extra time to reach destinations.
Communities in northeastern Louisiana, including Monroe and Tallulah, may also experience fog-related slowdowns during peak travel hours. Air travelers should prepare for possible delays at Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport as conditions remain murky until mid-morning.
The fog should gradually lift after 9 a.m., but forecasters warn more advisories could be issued if moisture lingers into late morning.
