Jackson, MS – Commuters across southern and central Mississippi should prepare for areas of dense fog through 10 a.m. Tuesday, especially south of Interstate 20, according to the U.S. National Weather Service in Jackson. The agency warns that visibility could drop to a quarter mile or less in some spots, creating hazardous travel conditions during the morning rush.
According to forecasters, the elevated fog risk (Level 2) extends from Natchez to Hattiesburg, while a limited risk (Level 1) covers areas farther north, including Vicksburg, Jackson, and Meridian. Patchy fog is also possible elsewhere across the region.
Drivers are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra space between vehicles. The fog is expected to gradually lift by mid-morning as temperatures rise.
The Weather Service emphasized that even short stretches of dense fog can be dangerous, particularly on rural highways and interstates where speed limits are higher. Motorists traveling early Tuesday should plan for delays and reduced visibility until conditions improve.
