Jackson, Mississippi – A strong heat surge will push temperatures across Mississippi into the upper 80s by Saturday afternoon, with a drier pattern limiting thunderstorms and allowing heat to intensify quickly.
According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, there is an 80 to 90 percent probability of above-normal temperatures statewide through early next week. Mississippi sits firmly within the core of the expanding 35-state heat event, with limited storm coverage expected.
Jackson is forecast to reach the upper 80s between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday, with similar conditions extending along the I-55 corridor into areas like Grenada and McComb. Meridian and eastern Mississippi will also climb into the upper 80s, while Gulf Coast areas such as Gulfport and Biloxi remain in the mid to upper 80s due to coastal influence.
Thunderstorm activity will remain isolated at best, with most areas staying dry under mostly sunny skies. This will allow temperatures to rise efficiently each afternoon, especially across central and northern Mississippi.
Residents should stay hydrated, avoid prolonged outdoor activity during peak heat, and prepare for extended sun exposure. This warm and mostly dry pattern is expected to persist through early next week, with additional advisories possible if conditions intensify.
