Jackson, MS – Rain chances are steadily increasing across Mississippi this week, with a more organized and impactful round of storms expected to arrive by Thursday night and continue into Friday.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, isolated to scattered afternoon showers will develop Monday through Wednesday, primarily across southern portions of the state. While these early-week showers will be hit-or-miss, they signal a shift toward a wetter pattern.
The more significant concern begins late Thursday, when widespread rain and thunderstorms move into central Mississippi, including Jackson, Vicksburg, and Meridian. Rainfall totals for the week are expected to reach 1 to 2 inches on average, with locally higher amounts possible under stronger storms.
Travel along I-20, I-55, and U.S. 49 could be impacted during heavier downpours late in the week, with reduced visibility and water pooling on roadways. While severe weather is not guaranteed, stronger storms could still produce gusty winds and lightning.
Residents should prepare for multiple rounds of rain and monitor updates as the late-week system develops. Additional advisories may be issued as storm timing and intensity become clearer.
