Jackson, MS – The US National Weather Service in Jackson says Mississippi is in for a dramatic temperature swing this week — from near 80°F highs late this week to a hard freeze by Tuesday morning.

Forecasters report that daytime highs through Friday and Saturday will reach the upper 70s to low 80s, running well above average for early November. A strong cold front is then expected to push through over the weekend, bringing much colder air into the state.

By early Tuesday, temperatures are forecast to dip into the upper 20s in some northern and central areas, prompting a Significant (Level 3) Freeze Risk for locations including Jackson, Meridian, and Philadelphia. Western and southern areas — such as Vicksburg and Hattiesburg — face an Elevated (Level 2) Freeze Risk, with lows falling below freezing for several hours.

The weather service warns that the cold snap could cause damage to unprotected vegetation and advises residents to cover sensitive plants, disconnect hoses, and prepare outdoor systems for the first major freeze of the season.
