DAVENPORT, Iowa — The Mississippi glints under a pale dawn sky this morning as calm air and mild temperatures mark the last truly warm stretch of the week. Change is coming quickly — a sharp cold front will sweep across the Quad Cities by late Thursday night, bringing rain, wind, and a first real taste of November chill.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, today stays pleasant with highs near 60°F under mostly sunny skies. Winds will remain light through early evening before shifting south Thursday as a storm system builds from the Plains. Clouds will thicken through the day Thursday, with showers developing after sunset and becoming widespread into early Friday morning. Some embedded thunder is possible, particularly along the I-80 corridor and across Rock Island and Scott counties.
By Friday morning, winds will swing west and gust up to 25 mph as cooler, drier air rushes in behind the front. Highs will only reach the mid-50s before falling sharply into the 30s by Friday night.
Saturday brings a mix of sun and cloud with scattered light showers and highs around 52°F, followed by a clear but cold night near 27°F — enough to bring frost to outlying areas. Sunday stays brisk and bright with highs near 37°F, signaling the start of the region’s early-winter pattern.
Residents should secure outdoor items and plan for slick roads late Thursday into early Friday. After all, this may be the last mild spell before the Midwest’s first widespread cold snap arrives next week.
