Tupelo, MS – A tornado watch remains active across 22 counties in north Mississippi, including the cities of Tupelo and Oxford, through 5 a.m. CDT Monday as severe weather moves through the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, Tornado Watch 81 was issued late Sunday night and continues through early Monday morning. Counties affected include Lafayette, Lee, Desoto, Marshall, and Panola, among others. Cities under alert include Southaven, Clarksdale, Holly Springs, and New Albany.

Residents are urged to remain weather-aware overnight. The primary threats include isolated tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail. The weather system is part of a larger pattern affecting the Mid-South, with atmospheric conditions favorable for rapid storm development.

Emergency managers advise using NOAA Weather Radios or reliable mobile alerts to stay updated. Individuals should have shelter plans in place and avoid travel unless necessary during the watch period.

This severe weather event comes amid an active spring storm season for Mississippi, where tornadic activity can intensify quickly during overnight hours. The current watch is set to expire at 5 a.m., but updates may be issued depending on storm movement and severity.
