Mississippi to Tennessee Tornado Tracks 16.75 Miles With Damage in Lauderdale County, Alabama

Florence, AL – A fast-moving EF-1 tornado left a trail of damage across three states Wednesday afternoon, including reported impact in Lauderdale County, Alabama.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, the tornado touched down around 4:55 p.m. CDT on April 3 and remained active until 5:08 p.m. The twister began in Tishomingo County, Mississippi, traveled northeast through Lauderdale County, Alabama, and ended in Hardin County, Tennessee. It spanned a total path of 16.75 miles with a maximum width of 425 yards. Peak winds were estimated at 105 mph.

No injuries or fatalities have been reported, but preliminary surveys confirm structural and tree damage in affected areas, particularly near CR 14 and CR 3 in northern Alabama.

Emergency management officials urge residents to stay weather-aware as cleanup efforts continue. Although this tornado was categorized as EF-1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, wind speeds over 100 mph are capable of uprooting trees, damaging roofs, and overturning mobile homes.
