Jackson, MS – Temperatures are expected to drop significantly tonight across Mississippi, bringing freezing conditions to areas north of Interstate 20. The National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts lows near or below 32 degrees for the Highway 82 corridor, while areas south of I-20 will remain just above freezing.

According to the NWS, residents should take precautions to protect sensitive plants and outdoor pets from the cold. Clear skies and calm winds will contribute to the chilly overnight conditions, with areas like Eupora and Columbus potentially seeing temperatures in the high 20s.

Looking ahead, Thursday will bring sunny skies and seasonable highs in the upper 50s to lower 60s across much of the state. Cities such as Jackson and Brookhaven are expected to see highs near 60 degrees, providing a pleasant start to the new year.

As the week progresses, a slight warming trend will set in, with highs climbing into the low 60s in southern parts of the state by the weekend. Lows will remain in the mid-30s to low 40s, keeping mornings brisk.

Travelers should note that weather conditions will remain stable, with no major precipitation expected through Sunday. Those commuting along Interstate 20 or Highway 82 should exercise caution during the early morning hours, as frost may form in colder areas.
