Jackson, Mississippi – Damaging wind gusts and hail up to quarter size could impact northern Mississippi beginning at 3 p.m. today as scattered thunderstorms develop across the state.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, areas north of I-20—especially cities like Greenwood, Eupora, and Columbus—face a slight risk for severe storms through tonight, with gusts reaching 60 mph. A broader marginal risk zone stretches from Greenville to Meridian, where isolated storms could bring strong winds and hail through Tuesday.
The most intense activity is expected this afternoon and evening, with storms redeveloping Monday and Tuesday during the same late-day hours. Residents in Jackson, Philadelphia, and Yazoo City should monitor for rapidly changing conditions and stay weather-aware during commutes and outdoor events.
Preparedness tips include securing outdoor items, avoiding unnecessary travel during storms, and charging devices in case of power outages. While tornadoes are not expected, forecasters noted one cannot be ruled out in Monday’s system.
Severe weather alerts remain in effect, with additional updates likely as new storm cells form each afternoon through Tuesday.
