Mississippi River Flood Warnings Continue as Water Levels Rise

Jackson, MS – Flood warnings remain in effect for several areas along the Big Black River in Mississippi as water levels continue to rise, causing minor flooding in multiple counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, flood warnings are active for the Big Black River near Bentonia, Bovina, and West, affecting Madison, Yazoo, Warren, Hinds, Holmes, and Attala counties. The river near Bovina is currently at 30.4 feet, surpassing the 28-foot flood stage, with a projected crest of 30.5 feet just after midnight. Several access roads near the river are already underwater.

At West, minor flooding is occurring, but the river is expected to fall below the 15-foot flood stage later today and continue to recede over the weekend.

Residents are urged to avoid flooded areas, heed road closures, and follow safety precautions. The next update from the National Weather Service is expected at 10:15 p.m.
