Jackson, MS — Dense fog blankets central, eastern, and southern Mississippi this morning, significantly reducing visibility across key routes, including I-55 and I-20. The National Weather Service warns drivers to prepare for visibility as low as a quarter-mile in some areas, creating potentially hazardous travel conditions until 10 a.m. Tuesday. Motorists are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and keep a safe following distance on fog-affected roads.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, dense fog is expected to remain heaviest in southern Mississippi, with counties like Jackson, Brookhaven, and Magee experiencing the lowest visibility. The fog advisory affects regions with “significant threat” levels, meaning visibility could drop close to zero in some areas. Drivers in these zones should exercise caution, especially near intersections and highway exits.
After the fog lifts later in the morning, Jackson can expect a sunny day with a high near 85°F. Winds will be light but could reach gusts of 20 mph by afternoon, potentially clearing residual fog and creating clearer skies.
Looking ahead, Wednesday should remain mostly clear and sunny, with a high of 85°F. However, rain chances rise significantly by Thursday, with a 70% likelihood of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. Rainfall totals could reach up to an inch. Friday will bring a 50% chance of thunderstorms, with conditions clearing by Saturday, making for a partly sunny weekend with highs in the low 80s.
