Paducah, KY – Major flooding continues across rivers in parts of Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois, with several rivers expected to crest by mid-April. The Mississippi, Ohio, and Green rivers are at critical levels, pushing authorities to issue warnings for towns along their banks.
According to the National Weather Service, the Green River in Paradise, KY, is forecast to crest at 403.3 feet by April 13, nearing a record level. In neighboring Hickman, KY, the Mississippi River is set to crest at 45 feet by April 11, nearing its 2017 record. Other areas like Murphysboro, IL, face moderate flooding as the Big Muddy River crests at 37 feet on April 10.
Rivers in Indiana, including the Patoka River, are also seeing major flooding, with projections of 23.3 feet by April 11. The Little Wabash River in Carmi, IL, is expected to crest at 36.6 feet by April 17.
Locals are urged to take precautions against rising waters, especially those in flood-prone areas. Temperatures are expected to drop into the upper 20s and lower 30s overnight, potentially causing frost. Authorities recommend protecting sensitive plants from freezing temperatures. With additional rain expected mid-week, the risk of further flooding remains high.
