Jackson, MS – A heat advisory will remain in effect Monday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. across parts of Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas, as scorching heat combined with high humidity could push heat index values up to 110°F.
According to the National Weather Service, areas including Jackson, Meridian, and Hattiesburg will experience extreme heat, posing a risk of heat-related illnesses. The advisory affects a broad swath of southeast Arkansas, northeast Louisiana, and much of Mississippi, with the highest temperatures expected between noon and 4 p.m.
The intense heat could lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke, particularly for those working or spending extended time outdoors. Residents are urged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned environments, and avoid strenuous activities during the hottest parts of the day. Those who must work outside are advised to take frequent breaks in shaded or cool areas.
In addition, people should check on neighbors and relatives who may be more vulnerable, such as the elderly or those with pre-existing health conditions.
The advisory remains in effect for Monday only, but more heat alerts may follow as the heat wave continues. Stay tuned for updates.
