Jackson, MS – Mississippi residents will continue to feel summer-like heat into early fall as temperatures remain well above seasonal averages this week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson. Highs are expected to run about 5 to 7 degrees warmer than normal, with many areas seeing upper 80s and low 90s.

According to NWS forecasters, a brief cool-down is expected this weekend, but the heat will return by early next week. A 6–10 day outlook released Tuesday morning shows much of the Southeast, including Mississippi, under above-normal temperature conditions through October 9.

In Jackson, highs are forecast to stay near 90 degrees through midweek before dipping into the 80s over the weekend. Other cities such as Hattiesburg, Meridian, and Greenville are also expected to see similar patterns, with slightly cooler readings Friday and Saturday before temperatures rebound.

The extended forecast shows the persistence of a warm weather pattern across the region, stretching into the second week of October. While overnight lows will offer some relief, daytime heat is expected to linger.

The NWS reminds residents to stay hydrated and limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, as above-normal temperatures remain a risk factor for heat-related illnesses even in early fall.
