Jackson, Mississippi – Dangerous heat and isolated severe storms are expected across Mississippi today, with heat index values climbing near 105°F and strong storms threatening the western part of the state through 9 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, temperatures will soar into the mid-90s statewide, creating heat stress conditions that may lead to fatigue or heat exhaustion. A Level 1 (Limited) heat advisory remains in effect through Monday, especially for outdoor workers and vulnerable individuals. Residents are urged to stay hydrated and avoid leaving children or pets in vehicles.
Severe weather remains a concern for cities west of I-55, including Greenville, Yazoo City, and Natchez. Between 1 p.m. and 9 p.m., isolated storms could produce damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to the size of quarters. The NWS has placed these areas under a Marginal (Level 1) risk for severe storms, with residents advised to monitor alerts and secure loose outdoor items.
Heat stress is expected to persist into next week, with limited relief overnight. Officials warn this is not the time to underestimate Mississippi’s summer heat.
Warnings remain in effect through Monday; further advisories may follow as conditions evolve.
