Jackson, Mississippi – A sweltering surge of heat and humidity will push dangerous conditions into much of Mississippi by Monday, with heat indices nearing 110°F across parts of the Mississippi River Delta and western counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a Level 2 “Elevated” heat stress alert has been issued for areas including Greenville, Yazoo City, and Vicksburg, where heat indices between 105°F and 110°F are expected by Monday afternoon. Level 1 “Limited” conditions will affect surrounding regions like Jackson and Natchez, with high temperatures in the low 90s and indices exceeding 105°F.
Residents in the elevated zone face a heightened risk of heat exhaustion, particularly during prolonged outdoor activities. The NWS urges people to avoid strenuous work outside during peak heat hours, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable groups and pets.
This stretch of dangerous heat continues a humid pattern that has lingered across the South in recent days. With July approaching, heat-related illnesses are becoming a growing concern across the Deep South.
Heat alerts remain in effect through Monday evening, and further advisories may follow as conditions persist into midweek.
