Jackson, Mississippi – Mississippi residents could face dangerous heat stress today as temperatures rise into the 90s and heat indices approach 105°F, with isolated storms expected to develop later this evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a Level 1 Limited Heat Stress Risk is in effect across much of central and southern Mississippi. High humidity combined with lower to mid-90s temperatures will create hazardous conditions, particularly for those working or spending extended time outdoors.

Cities including Jackson, Vicksburg, Greenville, and Hattiesburg fall within the advisory area. While heat stress is considered limited, officials warn that fatigue and heat exhaustion remain possible — especially during prolonged exposure. Outdoor workers and vulnerable populations should take precautions, including staying hydrated, wearing light clothing, and taking frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.

Storms may hold off until later this afternoon or evening and are expected to remain scattered. While widespread rainfall is unlikely, brief downpours and gusty winds may accompany any isolated cells.

Heat advisories could extend into the early part of the week, with conditions improving slightly by midweek. Updates will be posted at weather.gov/JAN.
