Jackson, MS – A flood advisory remains in effect for parts of Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas as the Mississippi River continues to rise, affecting areas around Natchez, Greenville, and Vicksburg.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, excessive rainfall has led to rising river levels, prompting concerns for communities along the Mississippi River. The advisory is in place until March 24 for Natchez and until March 19 for Greenville and Vicksburg.
At Natchez, the river was measured at 47.7 feet on Friday morning, just below the 48-foot flood stage. Forecasts predict gradual declines in water levels, but Carthage Point Road remains at risk of becoming impassable. In Vicksburg, where waters stood at 39.7 feet, flooding has affected roads, including the Long Lake Road to Eagle Lake Road. In Greenville, levels reached 41.9 feet, with flooding reported near Lake Ferguson.
Officials urge residents to avoid flooded roads and monitor updates from local authorities. More information is available at www.water.noaa.gov/wfo/jan. The next update is expected Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m. CST.
