JACKSON, Miss. – Mississippi drivers will sweat through another hot commute Tuesday with highs near 93°F before midweek storms bring relief and risk. The first full day of fall won’t feel like it, and residents should plan for heat-related stress if outdoors.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, Tuesday’s high will climb to the low 90s with heat index values reaching 97. Light south winds will offer little relief. By Wednesday morning, showers and thunderstorms increase across central Mississippi, with the greatest impact expected along the I-55 corridor and into the Jackson metro area.

Localized heavy rainfall may cause ponding on roads, especially in low-lying neighborhoods of Flowood, Ridgeland, and Clinton. Drivers should allow extra travel time, slow down on wet pavement, and keep an eye on changing conditions through Wednesday afternoon. Emergency managers caution that lightning strikes and brief downpours could disrupt school dismissals and evening commutes.

By Thursday, cooler air begins to filter into the state, with highs settling back into the low 80s. That shift will mark the first hint of true fall weather, though mornings will stay muggy until late week. Friday and Saturday bring dry skies and more comfortable sunshine for outdoor plans.

Mississippi residents should prepare for one more burst of summer-like heat Tuesday before the fall storm track takes hold. More advisories may be issued if Wednesday’s storms intensify.
