Jackson, Mississippi – Dense fog is creating hazardous driving conditions across east, northeast, and southeast Mississippi this Saturday morning, with visibility dropping below a quarter mile in several areas. A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, cities including Columbus, Philadelphia, and Meridian face a significant threat from widespread fog, with near-zero visibility possible in low-lying areas. Motorists are urged to reduce speed, turn on low-beam headlights, and delay travel if possible.
Major roadways like I-20, I-59, and US 82 are affected, especially around Hattiesburg, Eupora, and Laurel. School events, morning deliveries, and commutes may experience delays due to reduced visibility and increased travel time.
This is one of the most widespread fog events in Mississippi so far this spring, especially impacting early weekend plans and traffic. Areas along the Pearl River Valley and east of Jackson are most impacted.
The advisory is set to expire by 10 a.m., but local conditions may vary. Drivers should monitor NWS updates and be prepared for continued fog in shaded or rural stretches even after the advisory lifts.
