Clarksdale, MS – Heavy rainfall in the Mississippi Delta is prompting urgent flash flood warnings today as more than 5 inches of rain has fallen within just three hours.
According to the US National Weather Service Memphis, a Flash Flood Warning remains in effect for eastern Phillips County, Arkansas, extending into western Coahoma County, Mississippi. Radar data shows significant rainfall accumulation, creating hazardous travel conditions across the region.
Officials are urging drivers to avoid flooded roadways and to heed the safety reminder: “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.” Flooding of low-lying roads, fields, and neighborhoods is possible, and additional rainfall could worsen conditions through Friday afternoon.

This flash flood event follows a week of unsettled weather in the region, with additional storms possible later in the day. Travelers heading through the Mississippi Delta, particularly along highways near Clarksdale, Helena-West Helena, and surrounding rural routes, should plan for detours and delays.
