Jackson, MS – Mississippi residents should prepare for a significant severe weather event on Tuesday, with the potential for tornadoes, damaging winds, and hail, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson.

According to the NWS, the primary threats include severe storms with tornadoes and wind gusts reaching 40-50 mph. Hail is also a concern. The risk level is enhanced across much of the state, including Jackson, Vicksburg, and Hattiesburg. Winds away from storms will still be strong, with sustained speeds of 25-35 mph, creating hazards for power lines, trees, and high-profile vehicles.

Severe storms are expected to develop in the afternoon and continue into the evening. Areas west of Jackson may see storms as early as noon, with the greatest risk shifting eastward through the evening hours. The strongest storms are likely between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Residents are urged to review safety plans now and stay updated on future forecasts. Secure outdoor objects, prepare for potential power outages, and have a way to receive emergency alerts. Updates will be provided as the forecast evolves.
