Jackson, MS – Severe storms and high winds are expected to impact northeast Louisiana and southwest Mississippi on Thursday night. The National Weather Service warns of damaging gusts up to 60 mph and possible tornadoes.
According to the NWS Jackson office, a “Slight” risk exists for severe storms, particularly along the Interstate 55 corridor. The highest threat window is from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Strong south-to-southwesterly winds will develop Thursday afternoon and continue into early Friday. Sustained winds of 20-25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph, could cause tree damage and hazardous conditions for high-profile vehicles.
Residents should monitor forecasts and prepare for potential severe weather. The storm system may bring heavy rain, lightning, and power outages. Stay indoors during peak storm hours and secure outdoor objects.
