Dansville, NY – New York State Police have confirmed that human remains discovered in Dansville in December 2021 belong to Doh Soe, a Rochester man who had been missing for more than a decade. Officials announced the identification on Tuesday, reopening focus on what they are calling an active homicide investigation.

According to state police, Doh Soe, 23, was last seen on May 29, 2011, after he failed to show up for work in Rochester. Originally from Burma, Soe had immigrated to the U.S. and was reported missing by June 1, 2011. His disappearance remained unsolved until the remains were located off State Route 36 in Dansville on December 13, 2021.

Authorities have now linked the remains to Soe and confirmed that foul play is suspected. “This remains an active homicide investigation,” police said in a statement.

Investigators are urging anyone with knowledge of Soe’s disappearance or death to contact the New York State Police tip line at (607) 225-5400. Tips can be submitted anonymously.

The case continues to raise questions for residents in Livingston County and the greater Rochester area, where Soe’s disappearance had gone cold for over a decade.
