Mishawaka, Indiana – A police standoff at a Mishawaka home ended with an officer-involved shooting Sunday, leading to a multi-agency investigation.
According to the South Bend Police Department, Mishawaka Police and the St. Joseph County Metro SWAT team responded Sunday to a residence on Conner Drive for a reported hostage situation.
Police said negotiations lasted several hours before three adults and two juveniles were safely rescued from the home. Authorities confirmed that no hostages were injured during the incident.
During the standoff, the suspect was wounded by police gunfire and transported to a local hospital for treatment. The suspect’s condition was not released.
Under an interlocal agreement between agencies, the South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation surrounding the police standoff and subsequent officer-involved shooting.
Officials said that once the investigation is complete, all facts, evidence, and statements will be submitted to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office for review. Additional details are expected to be released as the case develops.
The incident occurred in a residential neighborhood, drawing a large police presence and temporarily impacting nearby residents and traffic during the extended response.
