Concord, CA – A light earthquake rattled parts of downtown Concord early Thursday morning, centered just south of Mount Diablo High School, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The magnitude 2.6 quake struck at approximately 3:50 a.m. local time (10:50 UTC), about 2 kilometers west-northwest of downtown Concord. The USGS reports a depth of 16.2 kilometers. Early “Did You Feel It?” responses indicate light shaking across central Concord, Pleasant Hill, and parts of Walnut Creek.

According to data from the California Integrated Seismic Network (CISN), the quake was part of ongoing minor seismic activity across the East Bay region. No damage or injuries have been reported as of Thursday morning, and local officials have not issued any emergency alerts.

The shallow depth and proximity to residential areas made the tremor noticeable, particularly in neighborhoods along Clayton Road and Grant Street. Residents described it as a brief “jolt” lasting only a few seconds.

Seismologists note that Concord lies near several active fault lines within the Diablo and Concord-Green Valley fault systems, known for producing occasional small-to-moderate earthquakes.

Residents are encouraged to review earthquake safety plans and ensure emergency kits are updated, as aftershocks are possible though unlikely to be severe.
