Duluth, MN – Strong winds and possible hazardous marine conditions are expected along the North Shore and western Lake Superior Friday and through the weekend, with forecasters urging caution for small craft and shoreline activities. Southwest winds will intensify Thursday night into Friday, with gusts potentially reaching gale force, creating rough waves up to nine feet along Minnesota’s coast.
According to the National Weather Service, these winds could create dangerous conditions for boaters and beachgoers. A gale warning is in effect, and authorities advise avoiding water activities in affected areas until conditions improve. Waves are expected to peak late Thursday, easing by Friday morning.
Looking ahead, Friday will bring sunny skies and temperatures around 52°F in Duluth, providing a brief calm before another shift in weather. Saturday will remain partly sunny but rain could begin by evening, increasing to a likely chance overnight. Highs are forecast around 51°F on Saturday, dipping to the low 40s by nightfall. Sunday looks to be rainy, with temperatures peaking near 48°F, and light rain possibly continuing into the night.
Veterans Day on Monday brings a more favorable forecast, with partly sunny skies and temperatures around 50°F, making it a welcome break for outdoor events. Calm and mostly clear conditions are expected to continue into early next week.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to monitor weather updates and take caution if planning outdoor or water activities this weekend. The National Weather Service continues to update the forecast and warns that conditions may shift, particularly over Lake Superior.
