Minneapolis, MN – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect across much of Minnesota and western Wisconsin through early Wednesday, as a strong clipper system brings heavy snow, powerful winds, and dangerous travel, according to the National Weather Service in Twin Cities/Chanhassen.
Forecasters report snowfall totals of 5 to 8 inches north of Interstate 94, with slightly lower amounts—3 to 5 inches—along and south of the highway. Wind gusts between 35 and 55 mph are expected to cause blowing snow and near-whiteout conditions, particularly in southern and southwestern Minnesota, where brief ground blizzard conditions may develop overnight.
In western Wisconsin, including Eau Claire, Barron, and St. Croix Counties, another 2 to 3 inches of snow could fall through Wednesday morning. A brief lull in precipitation is expected late tonight before light snow returns around dawn, tapering off by mid-morning.
The NWS cautions that slick roads, bridges, and overpasses will make travel hazardous, especially during the Wednesday morning commute. Drivers should allow extra time, slow down, and keep emergency supplies—including flashlights, food, and water—in their vehicles.
