Minneapolis, MN – A fast-moving clipper system is set to sweep across central Minnesota into western Wisconsin Tuesday afternoon, bringing 4 to 7 inches of snow and wind gusts of up to 40 mph, according to the National Weather Service in Twin Cities/Chanhassen.
The Winter Storm Warning takes effect from noon Tuesday through early Wednesday morning, impacting counties including Benton, Morrison, Sherburne, Todd, Anoka, Chisago, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs, Barron, Rusk, Chippewa, and Polk.
Forecasters say snow will begin in central Minnesota early Tuesday afternoon, spreading southeast into western Wisconsin by the evening. Areas along and north of Interstate 94 are expected to receive the heaviest accumulation. Meanwhile, locations south of I-94 may see a wintry mix, leading to lower totals but still slippery conditions.
Strong winds—especially across western and southern Minnesota—could cause blowing and drifting snow, leading to near whiteout conditions in open areas. Commuters are advised to prepare for hazardous travel during the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes, with slick roads and reduced visibility.
The storm is expected to taper off from west to east by Wednesday morning, though lingering impacts could continue during the early hours.
