Minnesota – Snow is already beginning to fall across the Northland, and conditions will worsen quickly as a winter storm intensifies, turning roads slick and reducing visibility across Duluth within hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a Winter Storm Warning takes effect by late afternoon, with snow and sleet increasing in intensity through the evening. Total accumulation is expected between 4 and 6 inches, along with a light glaze of ice and wind gusts up to 35 mph.

Across Duluth and into northwest Wisconsin, roads including I-35 and Highway 53 will become snow-covered and slippery. Visibility may drop sharply during heavier bursts, especially as winds pick up and blow snow across open areas. Travel could become hazardous quickly.

The combination of snow and ice raises concerns for both commutes and power reliability. Even a thin glaze can coat bridges and overpasses first. Plan for slower travel speeds and keep emergency supplies in your vehicle.

Conditions remain active into Saturday, with periods of snow and blowing snow continuing before tapering off later in the day. Gusty winds will keep roads slick even after snowfall slows.

By Sunday, quieter weather returns with partial sunshine, though colder air lingers. Highs climb into the low 40s before dropping back into the 30s early next week.
