Minnesota – Gray clouds stretch over Minneapolis this morning as mild air settles across the Twin Cities, but a sharp weather shift is already taking shape.
Temperatures sit near 41°F across Minneapolis–St. Paul, with overcast skies and calm winds keeping the morning quiet for now.
Conditions will not stay quiet long.
According to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, showers begin developing late today and become widespread Friday as a strong spring system moves into Minnesota.
Roads across Interstate 94, I-35W, and Highway 62 could turn slick during periods of steady rain Friday morning and afternoon. Drivers should prepare for slower commutes across Minneapolis, Bloomington, and St. Paul.

The bigger shift arrives Friday night.
Meteorologists say rain will gradually change to snow and a wintry mix across central Minnesota as colder air moves in behind the system.
Light snowfall accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are possible by Saturday morning, especially northwest of Minneapolis toward St. Cloud and central Minnesota.
A brief period of freezing rain could also develop as temperatures fall toward the lower 30s, potentially creating slick bridges and overpasses early Saturday.
Conditions improve through Saturday afternoon as skies clear and temperatures reach the mid-40s.
Sunshine returns Sunday with highs near 61°F, bringing a strong burst of early spring warmth across Minnesota.
Sunday also marks the Daylight Saving Time change, when clocks move forward one hour at 2 a.m. The extra evening daylight will quickly become noticeable across the Upper Midwest.
Looking ahead, temperatures remain mild early next week with highs near 60°F Monday, though additional rain or snow showers may return by midweek.
Meteorologists continue tracking the shifting spring pattern across the Midwest.
