Minnesota Weather is turning slick across Duluth this morning as wet snow and mist coat roads near Lake Superior. Visibility drops at times, and temperatures hover near 30 degrees. Slushy pavement along I-35 and Highway 61 could quickly turn icy before midday.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon. Additional snow accumulations up to 3 inches are possible in parts of the Northland, along with a light glaze of ice. Winds may gust as high as 40 mph, especially near the shoreline and higher terrain.
Snow continues through early afternoon before tapering. New accumulation of 1 to 2 inches is possible in Duluth today, with locally higher totals in northern Iron County. Road crews are treating major corridors, but side streets may stay snow-covered through the commute.
Another system arrives late tonight into Friday, bringing light additional snow. Totals generally range from a trace to 3 inches, though isolated 6-inch amounts are possible in the traditional snow belt. Friday stays cold with a high near 30 and blustery northwest winds.
Saturday holds a 30 percent chance of snow with highs near 27. Sunday turns partly sunny but brisk, topping out near 23 with gusty winds off the lake. Overnight lows dip into the teens, and wind chills will feel even colder.
Early next week remains chilly, but midweek temperatures moderate toward 30 degrees. Longer-range outlooks suggest gradual warming into late next week, hinting at early spring shifts across northeast Minnesota.
