Low clouds cling to the Mississippi River bluffs this morning, and a cold, damp breeze settles over La Crosse. Temperatures hover near 35 degrees, just close enough to freezing to raise concern for slick patches. If you’re heading out along I-90 or Highway 16, watch bridges and elevated ramps where thin glaze can form first.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, drizzle and pockets of freezing drizzle may develop, especially across northeast Iowa and southwest Wisconsin. Ice amounts look light, generally a glaze, but even a few hundredths of an inch can create slippery travel. The risk is highest through the morning commute.

Conditions gradually improve as temperatures edge toward 48 degrees this afternoon. Clouds begin to break late in the day. Any lingering slick spots should fade as pavement temperatures rise above freezing.

Tonight turns colder with lows near 29 degrees and patchy fog possible. That sets the stage for potential flash freezing in isolated areas if moisture lingers on untreated surfaces. Slow down in shaded valleys and rural roads before sunrise.

Midweek brings brighter skies. Wednesday turns mostly sunny with highs near 52. Rain chances return Wednesday night into Thursday, with highs around 51. A stronger push of spring warmth arrives Friday. Highs reach near 60 with steady rain likely.

The weekend trends calmer and milder, and early next week leans above normal. The 6–10 day outlook favors a warming pattern across western Wisconsin.

Clocks spring ahead at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 8. Longer evenings are coming.
