Minneapolis, MN – A line of severe thunderstorms is expected to sweep across portions of Minnesota and western Wisconsin through 11 p.m. Friday, threatening high winds, large hail, and dangerous lightning as evening travel ramps up.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, Severe Thunderstorm Watch 591 includes the entire Twin Cities metro—covering Hennepin, Ramsey, Dakota, and Anoka counties—as well as communities across southeastern and central Minnesota, including Goodhue, Stearns, Wright, and Wabasha counties. In Wisconsin, the watch zone includes Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls, and areas along the Mississippi River valley like Pepin and Pierce counties.
Storms will remain scattered through late evening but could intensify quickly, bringing 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-sized hail to urban and rural areas alike. Commuters and evening eventgoers should remain weather-aware and avoid open areas or travel on rural roads if storms develop rapidly.
Power outages are possible where winds bring down trees or power lines. Residents should charge phones and have flashlights ready in case of outages.
The storm watch remains in effect until 11 p.m. and may be upgraded if new cells develop. Stay tuned to local alerts for warnings or changes.
