Minneapolis, MN – Severe storms are expected Monday afternoon and evening, bringing threats of damaging winds, large hail, and possible tornadoes.

According to the US National Weather Service Twin Cities, thunderstorms are forecast to develop along a warm front between approximately 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., with severe weather potential continuing into the evening hours.

The greatest risk area includes much of southern Minnesota into western Wisconsin, where an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) has been outlined. Officials say all hazards are possible, including wind gusts up to 70 mph, hail up to 2 to 3 inches in diameter, and a few tornadoes.

Forecasters note that the exact corridor of highest impact remains uncertain and will depend on how far north the warm front advances. Areas near and along this boundary are expected to see the strongest storms develop.

Residents are urged to have multiple ways to receive warnings and remain weather-aware as conditions evolve through the evening.

The timing of storms may impact commuters and evening travel across the region, especially during peak hours.
