La Crosse, WI – Residents across southeast Minnesota, western Wisconsin, and northeast Iowa should prepare for severe weather Friday evening, with storms likely to bring damaging wind, large hail, and localized flash flooding between 4 and 11 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, a Level 2 (Slight Risk) has been issued for scattered severe thunderstorms across counties north of I-90 including La Crosse, Winona, Wabasha, and Rochester, with Level 1 risks south toward Decorah and Prairie du Chien. Storms may develop rapidly this evening and drift eastward into central Wisconsin by midnight, with the heaviest rain favoring areas along and north of the I-90 corridor.

Storm totals could exceed 3 inches in spots, especially in areas that experience multiple rounds of storms. Flash flooding remains a concern in low-lying areas and near rivers. A heat index near 100°F Saturday afternoon will only add to the hazard, particularly in counties south of I-90 like Richland Center and Platteville.

Drivers are urged to delay travel tonight, especially on I-90, I-94, and U.S. Highway 14. Stay alert for fast-changing conditions and have multiple ways to receive warnings.

Severe weather threats may continue through the weekend.
