Duluth, Minnesota – A sharp temperature drop across the northern U.S. is triggering frost advisories across Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and South Dakota through early Sunday morning, potentially damaging sensitive plants and impacting outdoor activities.

According to the National Weather Service, overnight lows between 31 and 34 degrees are expected, with frost likely from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. CDT Sunday. Advisories span from eastern Minnesota and northern Wisconsin to wide swaths of the Dakotas, including cities such as Duluth, Grand Rapids, Superior, Aberdeen, Fargo, and Bismarck.

In northern Wisconsin, counties like Bayfield, Ashland, and Douglas are under a Frost Advisory through 8 a.m. Sunday. In Minnesota, similar alerts extend from Pine City to Cook County and the Boundary Waters region. In the Dakotas, nearly 60 counties are affected, with temperatures expected to dip near or below freezing, particularly in areas like Jamestown, Wahpeton, and Mobridge.

Gardeners are urged to bring potted plants indoors and cover tender vegetation. Light winds and clear skies will accelerate frost formation overnight, especially in low-lying areas and open farmland.

Additional advisories could follow if chilly air lingers into the start of the workweek. Residents should monitor local weather updates closely and take steps to protect outdoor plants and early fall crops.
