Minneapolis–St. Paul, MN – Snowflakes swirl through the cold November air this morning, and the steady hum of wind across frozen fields signals what’s coming next — a long-duration winter storm poised to grip southern Minnesota through Saturday night. Travelers and residents alike should brace for hazardous road conditions and reduced visibility as heavy snow spreads across the region.

According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities office, snow is already pushing east from the Dakotas and will intensify through the afternoon and evening. The heaviest snow is expected along and south of Interstate 90, where totals could exceed 6 to 10 inches by Saturday evening. Around the Twin Cities metro, accumulations of 3 to 6 inches are likely, enough to snarl post-Thanksgiving travel and make untreated roads slick.

Gusty northwest winds may further complicate travel, blowing snow across highways and reducing visibility late Saturday. The snow will gradually taper by Saturday night, leaving behind a crisp, quiet Sunday with highs near 20°F and a biting northwest wind.

Looking ahead, early December looks colder than average across much of the Upper Midwest. Models hint at another system by midweek, with the potential for light snow or flurries returning between December 2–4 — a sign that winter is settling in for real.
