Minnesota — Headlights glow softly through a gray haze this morning as dense freezing fog settles across the Twin Cities. Moist air clings to the pavement, and untreated roads quietly glaze over before sunrise.

A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect through the morning hours for Minneapolis–St. Paul and much of central Minnesota. Visibility has dropped to as low as one-quarter mile in spots. Freezing fog is creating slick patches, especially on bridges, overpasses, and lesser-traveled roads. Drivers may not see the ice until tires lose grip.

Temperatures hover near freezing early, allowing moisture to freeze on contact. Slow down and leave extra space between vehicles. Conditions may improve gradually later this morning, but shaded roads could remain icy longer.

As the day progresses, clouds linger and temperatures climb into the mid-30s. A brief window of light rain may develop late today, followed by a rain-snow mix tonight. Accumulations stay minor, but even light precipitation can refreeze after dark.

Friday turns colder and brighter. Sunshine returns, yet highs struggle to reach the low 30s. Cold air settles in Friday night, dropping lows into the low 20s. Another round of light snow is possible late Friday night into Saturday, mainly producing nuisance accumulations.

Saturday stays cold and mostly cloudy with highs near the mid-20s. Winds add a biting edge. Saturday night dips into the teens, increasing the risk of refreezing on wet surfaces.

Sunday brings some relief. Skies partially clear, and highs reach the upper 20s. Early next week trends milder, with daytime temperatures climbing back toward the upper 30s by Monday.

Meteorologists stress that winter hazards are developing now, even without heavy snow. Fog, ice, and timing are the biggest threats.
