Duluth, MN – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for portions of northeastern Minnesota, including St. Louis, Cook, and Lake counties, from 9 p.m. Monday to 10 a.m. Tuesday due to expected freezing rain and light snow.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, ice accumulations could reach up to one-tenth of an inch, with snowfall totals remaining under an inch. The affected areas include the Tribal Lands of the Bois Forte Band in the Lake Vermilion area and the Grand Portage Reservation, as well as parts of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.

Roads, particularly bridges and overpasses, are expected to become slick and hazardous overnight. Motorists are advised to drive cautiously and allow extra travel time during the Tuesday morning commute.

Freezing rain is expected to develop Monday night and persist into early Tuesday morning. Residents should be mindful of slippery conditions on sidewalks, stairs, and driveways, which may increase the risk of falls and injuries.

The National Weather Service advises those traveling to check local road conditions and take necessary precautions. For updated forecasts and graphical depictions of snowfall and ice accumulation, visit www.weather.gov/dlh/winter.
