Minnesota – Snowflakes whip sideways in the morning wind, coating windshields and sidewalks in a light, powdery glaze across the Twin Cities. The early December chill has fully settled in, and another quick-hitting round of snow is on the way, likely to complicate travel through the weekend.
Meteorologists at the National Weather Service Twin Cities/Chanhassen office report that steady snow will move through today, bringing around an inch of accumulation across the Minneapolis–St. Paul metro. Winds will gust up to 20 mph, dropping visibility at times and creating slick patches on bridges and untreated roads. Temperatures will struggle to reach 30°F before falling sharply again this evening.
By Saturday, a brief lull in precipitation gives way to another chance of light snow late in the day — up to another inch possible, mainly west and south of the metro. The air stays brutally cold, with highs in the teens and wind chills near zero. Sunday continues the trend: cloudy, breezy, and still cold enough to refreeze melted snow, increasing black ice risk on I-35, I-94, and I-494 corridors.
Looking ahead, Monday brings another clipper system with scattered snow chances, while midweek stays below freezing before a modest warm-up into the upper 20s by Thursday. Long-range models hint at continued snow potential Dec. 11–17, part of a broader Great Lakes pattern driving early holiday travel concerns.
Keep snow brushes and layers handy, and plan extra time on the roads this weekend.
