Fargo, ND – A major winter storm is expected to sweep through portions of Minnesota and southeast North Dakota beginning Tuesday evening, bringing heavy snow, gusty winds, and hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Tuesday evening through late Wednesday night. The alert includes central, north-central, northwest, and west-central Minnesota, as well as southeastern North Dakota. Cities in the storm’s path include Fargo, Moorhead, Bemidji, Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls, Wahpeton, and Park Rapids.

Forecasters estimate a 60 percent chance of snow accumulations reaching at least 6 inches. Wind gusts up to 35 mph may create areas of blowing snow and significantly reduce visibility, especially during the Wednesday morning and evening commutes.

The system may begin as a mix of rain and snow Tuesday, with heavier snow developing overnight. Melting from earlier precipitation could limit early impacts, but conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly.

Residents should monitor local updates and prepare for potential delays. Drivers are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during the storm period and to keep emergency kits in vehicles. Schools and businesses should be alert for possible schedule changes.
