East Grand Forks, Minn. – Thunderstorms, gusty winds, and summer heat return to northwest Minnesota Sunday, kicking off an unsettled stretch of weather through midweek.
According to the National Weather Service, areas of smoke will clear by midday Sunday, making way for highs near 86°F and a chance of afternoon thunderstorms across Polk County, especially after 1 p.m. Winds from the south could gust up to 25 mph, raising risks for downed limbs and brief power disruptions.
Showers will taper off by Sunday night, but conditions remain active through Tuesday. Monday will bring another round of storms, most likely after 1 p.m., with potential thunder, lightning, and rainfall totals near 0.75 inches. Winds will increase again, shifting east and gusting as high as 21 mph in the evening.
Residents along US-2 and MN-220 should prepare for reduced visibility during rainfall and potential slick roads, especially during Monday evening’s commute.
By Tuesday, cooler air settles in with highs near 76°F and more scattered rain likely through the evening. Tuesday night dips to 53°F with slight chances of additional showers. Expect drier, calmer conditions Wednesday with partly sunny skies and a high near 70°F.
Looking ahead, Thursday warms back up to 75°F under sunny skies, setting the stage for a more typical summer pattern heading into the weekend.
More thunderstorms may develop by late Thursday night, so keep devices charged and outdoor plans flexible. Weather alerts remain possible through the week.
