MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Twin Cities will see a calm start to the weekend before a more active weather pattern sets in by early next week, with thunderstorms likely to disrupt commutes Monday evening into Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, scattered showers are possible Saturday afternoon, mainly after 2 p.m., but skies will clear by Sunday with highs reaching the mid-60s. Conditions turn unsettled Monday when showers are expected after 1 p.m., followed by a stronger round of thunderstorms late in the day. The storm system may bring heavy downpours, gusty winds, and reduced visibility for evening travelers.
Drivers across Minneapolis, St. Paul, and surrounding suburbs should prepare for slick roads during Monday’s rush hour. Overnight Monday into early Tuesday, thunderstorms remain possible with rainfall totals reaching up to half an inch in spots. By Tuesday afternoon, another wave of scattered storms could linger before clearing moves in midweek.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items ahead of Monday’s storms and allow extra travel time, especially on I-94, I-35, and I-494. Power outages remain a low but possible risk given gusty winds.
Skies will turn partly cloudy Wednesday with temperatures holding in the low 70s. Additional showers are possible Thursday night into Friday as another system approaches.
