Minneapolis, Minnesota – Thunderstorms will sweep across Minnesota late Tuesday, bringing lightning, heavy rain, and a risk of slick roads to the Twin Cities region. Travelers on I-94 and I-35 should expect delays and changing driving conditions, especially after 4 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered showers and thunderstorms are set to develop Tuesday afternoon, with the greatest risk in Minneapolis, St. Paul, and surrounding suburbs from 4 p.m. into the night. Rain may be heavy at times, and gusty winds could impact visibility for evening commuters. The NWS expects most of the activity to clear out by early Wednesday, but localized flooding and brief power outages can’t be ruled out.

Residents in Hennepin and Ramsey counties should monitor weather alerts and avoid non-essential travel if storms intensify. Secure loose outdoor items and charge devices in case of power loss. Area schools and businesses should review weather safety protocols. Storms could cause ponding on highways—particularly on I-94, I-35W, and county roads across the metro.

Wednesday will remain unsettled, with more showers possible. By Thursday, drier air returns, though an isolated shower may linger. The weekend turns warmer and mostly sunny, perfect for outdoor plans, with highs near 90°F on Saturday and Sunday. A few spotty showers could develop late Sunday, but no widespread severe weather is expected.

Warnings remain in effect through Wednesday morning, with the next update scheduled by noon Tuesday. Stay tuned for any changes as more storms could develop later in the week.
